Next to nothing

V-neck mesh top c/o New Dress / Black asymmetric skirt c/o Lovely Wholesale / Envelope clutch from Groupon

I'm really indecisive when it comes to trends. I'm trying to invest in more classic pieces, but even "classic" can get pretty subjective. Get a good pair of jeans? Well skinnies are out and mom jeans are back in. Invest in a cozy cardigan? Nothing is fitted anymore these days. The oversized look has gotta go out of style sometime, right?

Which is why I like buying into fun trends every now and then on sites like New Dress. They have a really nice variety of products from funky purses to vintage dresses at a ridiculously low price. With low prices, you do always have to proceed with caution because it can mean that the quality isn't that great. But the quality here really isn't any worse than something you'd find at a typical mall. The best part is that every week, they have a set of items off their normal collection that sells for $0.01! Yes, that's right. What can you get for a penny these days? Well now, you can get a shirt like this. Okay, so it's a bit wrinkly when it arrives in the mail, but that's mostly my fault for not bothering to iron it.

In other news, I use this envelope clutch quite often now, but I'm a little bitter about it. I got it off Groupon for $10, which is a great deal. Except that I found this exact envelope clutch on New Dress with a wholesale price at $1.50. So some seller really cashed out by jacking up the price to offer it on Groupon. Moral of the story: Don't be afraid of $3 items. You're probably buying them anyway, but without getting the amazing savings.

Sidewalks

Ribbed crop top from Forever 21 / Skirt from Suzy Shier / Triangle necklace c/o Lovely Wholesale

You know in those old movies that depict the future with hover cars and people running around in the same monotone outfits? I think we're getting close to that point.

Here we are exclaiming about how modern and sleek the black, white, and grey trend is. But decades from now, people will be studying the 2010's and describing us as a culture that got sucked into the colourless life of conformity.

I exaggerate, but I can't help but to think how I'll feel about the monochrome palette in a few years. Right now, I'm loving how versatile my closet is full of shades of black and white. But all this is probably going to seem really boring in a few years. It's summer, why aren't I decked out in vibrant colours?

Also, please note that I didn't name this post "50 shades of grey". That's a pet peeve of mine. Hey bloggers, titling your post that really isn't that clever when 50 other bloggers (and an author) have done it.

...Maybe a lack of colour makes me cranky.

Plot it out in black and white

A dusting of snow is already on the ground, so that means that we'll be seeing more monotone black peacoats and black yoga pants against white (and eventually dingy) snow. On one hand, all the black and white can be a bit depressing and boring. But on the other, you never have to worry about matching colours together.

Charlie Brown

I have a thing for drawing inspiration from cartoon characters. My current inspiration is Charlie Brown. For a cartoon kid, he has quite the nervous character with just the right amount of dry sarcasm. As someone who took 13 tries to hit a baseball in Gr.9 gym class, I can relate to his struggles of not being able to kick a football. As someone who is a bit socially awkward, I'd have trouble asking out the Little Red-Haired Girl too. As someone who can barely fold a piece of paper symmetrically, I'd end up ruining my Halloween ghost costume too by messing up the eye holes.

I'm also someone who can appreciate that he wore chevron before it was cool. So I'm copying that wicked style, but with a monotone palette. In other news, this bag has two sets of handles and one strap. Yes, three distinct ways to hold it. I have never seen a bag with so many handles.
