Transitional weather confusion

Today was an unseasonable warm day; a spring weather teaser, if you will.  With a brief blast of nice weather comes dressing confusion.  You know, it's the guys that are in bermuda shorts, the girls in their t-shirts and chunky scarves, and the people that missed the memo completely and are still dressed for a snow storm.  For me, I see these seasonal transitions as that small window where wearing shorts and tall boots are acceptable (and it was a tad chilly still, so tights were necessary).  Do you know what the highlight of my morning was?  Getting dressed.  Yes, as sad as that sounds, I was really excited to have the freedom to mix and match sweaters, blazers, shorts, and cute shoes again, without worrying about freezing or snow damage.

So I've compiled a little ideal outfit with a few of my favourite weather confusion/transitional season things.  I've discovered that I'm quite the fan of mixing more subtle feminine pieces and shades with edgier pieces, usually black as a contrast.  And I've also been discovering a love for bright pink lipstick as the final complement to the feminine-edgy combination.  And of course, sunnies are a necessity for the sunny seasons!

Lazy Sunday

It's just one of those gorgeous days where it's beautifully sunny, there's a comforting breeze, and you just don't feel like being productive.  Sure, you could laze around the patio in an oversized t-shirt and shorts, but it's just as easy to do it in style.

A simple romper, cute wedges, and sweet sunnies are the go-to pieces for relaxed days like this.  Fast fashion & effortless chic indeed.  Throw in a pop of colour in a bag if you plan to head out, and you're set! Who says fashion has to be complicated?

Enjoy the beach, patio, park, cafe, or wherever you may be!

Hockey fashion

Canada's got hockey fever. Most people are abuzz with talk of what's going to happen in the final Game 7 between Vancouver and Boston for the win. And that's just in Ottawa- I can't even imagine what it's like in Vancouver! Tomorrow's going to be kind of a weird day for me. There's a charity runway show that I'm excited about, but at the same time, it overlaps with the game. Now, I never thought I'd be choosing between sports and fashion. I'm usually not the sports type, but I kinda jumped on the bandwagon for this one.

So through my planning of how to run around and not miss too much of either event, I wondered, "if only I could combine hockey and fashion".  And here we have a makeshift fashionable colourful support for the team.  Using items from Topshop, I've created a little ensemble that would work to attend a fashion show and a pub to cheer on the team.  Note the majority blue with white and green accents- like the Canucks' jerseys.  I'm a little proud of this thought.  If only I had the right mix in my closet. But I don't have a blue dress. Or a white bag. Or green shoes.

I'd totally wear this on a regular day even if it wasn't hockey season. I'll definitely be blogging about the fashion show later, and maybe my little adventure from fashion to sport.  I'll be live tweeting like I usually do on my twitter though.

Pretty priority procrastination

Like any good student, I like to have my priorities straight.  Sure, I could prioritize my exam tomorrow, but I'd rather worry about what to wear to the Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week in 2 weeks.  I put together this little number from Topshop pieces.  This outfit is some inspiration that I'm using to put together an outfit for one of the days at [FAT].  It may be a tad too daytime for a fashion show, so that's where I'll see what I can conjure up from my own closet.  The two-toned romper is a great base piece.  To make it more of an evening piece, I decided to go with patterned stockings to add some oomph to the outfit.  The next decision was the shoes.  While heels is always a nice formal choice, the 70s styled romper led me to go with equally retro-inspired chunky wedges.  The bag not only matches the romper, but its size would be great for carrying a camera, notepad, and other miscellaneous items one might bring to a fashion show.  The other accessories (tasseled belt, flower headband, bangles) are meant to glam up the outfit with fairly edgy pieces.

1 Tan Bow Front Colour Block Playsuit

3 Black Lace Corsage Headband
4 Pretty Bangle Pack
5 Two Tone Colour Satchel
6 Black Suede Tassel Belt
7 Peachy Buckle Strap Wedges

Topshop of the mornin' to ya

In honour of the recent announcement that the UK-based store, Topshop, is coming to Canada (at The Bay), I've decided to do a little post in anticipation of what we can expect. Topshop is home to tons of great pieces- most of which present that lovely vintage-inspired feel the fashion community has been lusting over. 'Vintage' is a broad term though.  Within this category, you'll also find subcategories such as posh, romantic, hippie, urban, etc.

Here's a little ensemble I put together to convey an edgier romantic vintage look.  A delicate cream blouse is great on its own, but paired with faded denim and tall boots, the look becomes more mischievous.  Paired with a matching cream bow hair accessory and pink sunnies to hide the trouble in one's eye, it's a great balance of modesty and mischief.  This outfit is made complete with the help of a dark grey messenger bag that complements the lighter tones.

1. Cream Embroidered bow blouse- $80.00
2. Bleach Denim Western Jacket- $80.00
3. Sylvie Bag by Orelia- $200.00
4. DARYL Grey High Leg Flat Suede Boots- $170.00
5. Raffia Bow Barrette- $28.00
6. Pink Keyhole Sunglasses- $38.00
