The weekend suit

Blue velvet top c/o DressLily / Nike Lunar Stelos / Boyfriend jeans from Joe Fresh / Black blazer from H&M

As much as I like having seemingly endless choices of what to wear, I find myself envying how easy it is for guys to throw on a suit and recycle outfits on loop. The other day, someone asked me what kind of suit I would wear if I had the option then. After a bit of reflection, I realized that I have a weekend suit - something that I wear on Casual Fridays that carries me through to the weekend.

I started off wearing this outfit on Fridays because it's a good mix of polished and comfortable (when I change into my work heels). But why stop there? Why does grocery shopping on a Saturday mean that I have to look like I rolled out of bed?

I think it's funny when people say that I look put together because they have no idea how much laziness really goes into what I wear. I live in these boyfriend jeans when I can because they provide enough eating space to conquer a buffet. Don't be fooled by the blazer - I'm fake fancy.

Unfit resolutions

Damask dress c/o CNDirect | Boyfriend blazer from H&M / Knee-high boots from Le Chateau

I've got some beef with New Year's resolutions. I'm glad that resolutions have shifted from "lose weight to look better!" to "get fit to feel better!" but we're not quite there yet. Still, we found ourselves bombarded with cereal commercials and yoga studio promos telling us that getting fit is the key to your new year happiness. But guess what? Going to the gym doesn't fix everything. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for promoting health. But don't let the guise of inner beauty fool you into believing that these companies aren't obsessing over vanity.

Where are the commercials for makeup for that girl who wants the illusion of a thinner nose? Or the number for a cosmetic surgeon for the guy who thinks the scar on his shoulder is unsightly? It sounds ridiculous and we can't target every person's veiled insecurities. So let's focus on something else: Acceptance. Instead of messages about having to love every part of your body, I want messages that say "Hey, we all have our crap to deal with. And that's cool. As long as you don't let it run your life". There's nothing wrong with being aware that you dislike something about yourself.

But that's a lot harder to sell, isn't it?

Shopping at home

Brown Twill Pencil Skirt / Plum faux leather jacket / White sweater from H&M / Black combat boots

I was bored the other day and went shopping in the spare closet. You know the one -- it's rarely opened, used to store the stuff that you don't really need/use but hold on to because you might need it someday. In my house, this closet holds clothes. And I found skirts! Specifically, this twill skirt that I've finally taken a liking to now that I value work clothes. The skirt (and every other skirt on the hanger) was my mom's from the 90's.

Gotta say, it makes me feel kind of old sometimes that we're at a point in time where a decade that I grew up in has actually cycled back to become trendy again. But the benefit of being a mild packrat is that I don't have to buy anything to be on trend this season. Hello, long jackets with shoulder pads! Yes to midi skirts!

Dirty white

Taupe blazer from Forever 21 / Cream sweater from PacSun / Quilted mint bag from LuLu's / Light wash jeans from PacSun / Twisted gold necklace from Joe Fresh

You know how people say that wearing white is a magnet for a spill? I've noticed that I do drop things on my white shirts frequently. So much so, that I'm starting to wonder if all my clothes are food-stained and gross. Maybe I'm not messier when I wear white. Maybe my other clothes are just darker so the food gets camouflaged.

Similarly, I seem to have a thing for dropping chocolate on my jeans at awkward times. The first time, I dropped chocolate on my thigh right before standing up in front of the class to do a presentation. The second time was again on my thigh at school. Because I didn't want it to stain, I *subtly* tried to rub off the chocolate. On my thigh. Then I swear that someone was trying to talk me up as this happened. Let the record show that rubbing a spot on your thigh is never a good idea in public, not even because of food stains.

Sweats suit

Grey houndstooth blazer from Banana Republic / Grey jogging pans from Winners / Crystal statement necklace from Banana Republic / Boxy bag from Forever 21

Up until this year, I have rarely been seen wearing sweatpants. Absolutely never in public, never when I was living on campus, even my roommate expressed shock the one time she caught me wearing sweatpants in the apartment. But all that has changed now. Now that sweatpants (or jogging pants, if you want to play semantics) have been deemed trendy, I can't remember how I've gone so long without comfy pants. And they're so easy to dress up. I just throw a blazer on and I'm good to go to work. I'm an office drone who sits for 95% of the time anyway. Who's gonna really take notice of my pants? As long as it's business on top, right?

Contrast

White trim blazer from Le Chateau / Black trim top from H&M / High waisted shorts from Forever 21 / Beige booties from Justfor5pounds / Wooden sunglasses from Woodzee

Contrast is a great way to keep things interesting. Pumping up the contrast in photos emphasizes certain aspects, contrast in opinions can really spice up discussions, and contrast in clothing draws the eye towards details. In this outfit, I'm contrasting light neutrals with a deep rust colour and piling on the contrast trim clothing.

I've worn shorts twice this season. The first time, it was actually colder than the forecast suggested so I looked like a frozen idiot. So when putting on shorts this time, I made sure to pair it with layers just in case the weather took a turn. And it's a good thing I did because it was sunny and raining at the same time. I think I could get used to the idea of the preppy sailor look.

Bucket list

When most people put together a Bucket List (a list of things someone wants to do before they die), items usually involve things like skydiving or travelling to see the wonders of the world.  On the other hand, I just wanted something on my list that was original, creative, and a little crazy.  Yesterday, I attempted my Bucket List item of wanting to eat a whole large pizza in one sitting.  Yup, all 10 slices.  I only made it up to 6 slices though, and I think I'll consider the attempt good enough because I thought I was going to die after.  I also learned that binging on pizza and drinking soda and carbonated water causes the hiccups for about 7 hours straight, which is even more deadly than the actual pizza load.
