Something for spring

You would think that I would eventually get used to it after 20-something years. But no. Winter always feels "especially long this year" around this time. Now that the sun peaks out every so often, I get spurts of inspiration where I swear that I'm gonna go for a walk outside because screw the weather - it doesn't run my life. And then I remember that yes, yes it does. No matter how sunny, -5 degrees with a windchill just doesn't feel like a fun spring mood. So, I do what any good city-dweller does instead: hides in a mall and buys things that are reminiscent of warmer times. I'm talkin' florals, bright lipsticks, and dewy summer skin.

Admittedly, I've been a drugstore makeup girl for the majority of my life. This is the first time I've decided to upgrade my foundation and I feel like I've been missing out all this time! Urban Decay's Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Foundation is exactly as named. My skin doesn't feel cakey by the end of the day and the watery formula feels light, almost like I'm not even wearing foundation. I've also been using The Ordinary's Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% serum daily. Good skin texture results aside, I actually like the way this smells. It kind of smells like artificial fruity candy, which just makes me a little giddy.

During my "I hate winter" finds, I picked up some chai-flavoured lip balm that was on sale for $1. Now, I should have seen this coming, but it gave me a huge allergic reaction on my lips. So dry and itchy! Thankfully, Lush's Honey Trap lip balm was gentle enough to get me through all the irritation and hydrating enough to repair the damage.

And as I eagerly await sunnier days, I treated myself to a pair of Ray-Ban aviators. On top of upgrading my makeup game, I've also finally upgraded to a proper pair of sunglasses. I feel like I've hit a rite of passage as an adult where I'm finally listening to advice that quality really is worth it. I'm definitely ready for spring, even if it is a little delayed.

What's up, Canada?

As someone who took three Canadian culture courses in university, let me tell you that so far, no one has really accurately been able to stir up Canadian pride in me with a single definition. Lately though, I've been feeling pretty great about Canada. Now, we might not have giant sales or flags bellowing in every other window, but here's what keeps the maple syrup running through my veins:

  • Having open conversations about politics at work, but clear rivalries when it comes to sports.
  • Whenever The Barenaked Ladies, Celine Dion, or Bryan Adams are mentioned by international media.
  • Being able to get drunk around dinosaurs and priceless art at the Royal Ontario Museum.
  • The inability to think of any "Canadian" food besides poutine. But it's okay because we can get food from all around the world here.
  • Having someone bump into you, but you're the one who says "sorry".
  • The guarantee that someone will say "Am I having a stroke?" when the smell of burnt toast is present (Thanks, Heritage Minutes).

Gearing up for Canada Day? Want to rock the Canada Day nails look as pictured above? Get yourself some free Canadian flag nail stencils from Whats Up Nails! All you have to do is head over to Nail Polish Canada, then use this code: XL2VN00317NPN.

Hurry though, the code works for the first 10 users! And sorry, this offer is only for Canadians though. Sorry.

Review: Seche Vive Top Coat

I don't think I can go back to using another top coat after this. To really put Seche Vive to the test, I conducted two tests that reflect my lazy and sloppy nail regime. I wish that I had the patience and skill to put nail polish on perfectly every time, but I don't. So for you nail polish amateurs out there, this review is for you.

First, I used Seche Vive over cheap nail polish from Forever 21. Normally without top coat, I'd start to see chipping after about 5 days of wear. Seche Vive managed to double the life of my polish. If this is what it does to cheap polish, I can't wait to try this on top of the nice stuff. Plus, the "instant drying" label really rings true - I was able to go about my normal business in about two minutes after applying.

Next, I was in a hurry one day but needed some colour on my nails. So I sloppily brushed on some polish, including committing the sin of putting a second coat on before the first coat was dry, which caused an uneven mess. With one swipe of Seche Vive, the gel effect kicked in and smoothed over the blotchy patches of nail polish to create one seamless finish. This is a serious game changer. For someone who is a little clumsy with using my hands while my nail polish is supposed to be drying, it's a big plus that my mistakes can be smoothed over so easily.

I tend to get sucked into buying poor quality nail polish from time to time, especially when it comes to bold colours. It's nice to know that I can spend less money on nail polish. But if I invest in a good top coat like Seche Vive, I can prolong the life of my nail polish wear and give it a more professional finish. Definitely would buy this again. Get this from Nail Polish Canada - it's worth it.

Cosmetic hacks to improve your beauty routine

A lot of people know that there are right ways to apply makeup and wrong ways. But a lot of people aren’t as well-versed in what makes methods right or wrong as they think they are. Let’s take a look at some great cosmetic hacks that can help perfect your beauty routine.

Saving on cosmetics

Makeup is something that people are so often wasting money on. I’m not saying that buying makeup is a waste of money, of course! What I’m saying is that people often end up spending a lot more than they really have to. That’s because there is a lot of waste when it comes to cosmetics.

One of the most common problems is the excess makeup that can be found with most products; the stuff that sticks to the sides or the bottom of the containers that a lot of people just end up throwing away. Don’t underestimate how useful that excess stuff can be - use coins and knives to carefully scrape excess makeup back into use! Another problem is that people often forget that you can get cosmetics for less than your local beauty store is selling it for. For example, you find a Kiko coupon code on www.pluscodepromo.fr.

The magic of spoons

People really underestimate the usefulness of spoons when it comes to a beauty routine. You may, in fact, be wondering what I could possibly be suggesting in relation to spoons. Some of you may have guessed already that there is one particular area I could be referring to, given the round shape of a spoon: the eyes!

A spoon can work really well for eye cosmetics in two ways. The first is holding the spoon so it’s “hugging” your eyelid when you apply mascara. This keeps you from getting mascara on your eyelids if you’re not that accurate! Another way a spoon comes in handy is when you’re creating eyeliner “wings”. Use the handle of the spoon to get the straight, upwards line, then use the curve of the spoon to trace the curved part of the wing. I usually like reading guides more than watching videos, but I highly recommend watching tutorials on winged eyeliner tips - seriously a game-changer.

Lipstick tricks

Lipstick can pose a bunch of problems even if you’re really smart about how you apply it! It seems that even the most beautiful and deep shades of lipstick fade away much faster than they should - and I haven’t even mentioned the mess it can make! Finding lipstick on your teeth is never a pleasant experience, especially when you know that other people must have already seen it! To avoid this, the best thing to do is stick your finger in your mouth. Sounds odd, but trust me! Form an O with your lips around your finger, then gently slide your finger out. That excess lipstick will now be on your finger instead of waiting to cling to your teeth!

Another lipstick trick to make your pout last: hold some tissue over your mouth after applying the lipstick, then dust translucent powder over the area. This helps set the colour without creating a mess!

Streamlining your beauty collection

When it comes to creating the perfect beauty and makeup collection, we often end up buying quite a number of different bits and pieces.

There are certain products that can do two tasks at once. Others are made to supply you with different looks in one container or box. Double-ended products are also super useful.

So, even if your ideal routine includes 20 different items and tools, there are ways you can streamline this. Saving space and avoiding the graveyard of underused makeup products? Yes please.

2 in 1 primer and foundation
Rather than having lots of bottles floating around in your makeup bag or box, combine two of the most important ones together. Look for a foundation that comes with built-in primer. This allows you take up less room in your collection. Furthermore, it will save you precious time both when waiting for the primer to dry, and in overall applying times. Be sure to always add some of the product to both your lips and eyes. Here it can help hold your lip colour and eye products in place, without the need for additional primers.

Eyeshadow palettes
Rather than having numerous eyeshadows in your collection, opt for one great palette instead. An eyeshadow quad palette is always a good bet, as the variety of colours allows you achieve a defined and multi-tonal look. Look for ones that offer a darker shade, two medium shades, and a pale, highlighter shade. If quad palettes don’t quite quench your thirsty, go even bigger. Just be sure that the case or holder they come in is thin and light. If it is heavy, bulky or awkwardly shaped, you’d be better off with multiple little ones!

Clear lip liner
These are a relatively new invention for the high street. It used to be the case that the best lip liner was one that closely matched the shade of your lipstick or lipgloss. However, these days, clear can do the same job. While it doesn’t make your lips look as plump, it does stop it from bleeding at the edges. It can also help it stay on, and stay in place, for longer. Look for one with a fine tip so you can apply it neatly and precisely. This can take the place of all of your different coloured liners when you’re on the move!

Bronzer and blusher palette
Why carry around a blusher and a bronzer when you can have both in one palette? Make sure it is big enough that you can access both individually, however.

Double-ended Mascara
Another thing that can take up a lot of room within your makeup bag is multiple different types of mascara. Maybe you have one for lengthening and another for thickening. Perhaps you like to use different wands, so have one for upper lashes and a smaller one for lower lashes. Instead of carrying all of these around with you, get a double-ended mascara instead! If it’s thickening you’re after, go for one that has a thickening substance at one end, and then a deep black mascara at the other end.

6 ways to look amazing even when you don’t feel it

We all want to look our best. But presenting our best self to the world takes time and energy. And sometimes we just don’t feel it. We may be under the weather or just a bit blah. Whatever the reason, we don’t always feel like making ourselves Instagram ready. On these days follow our simple steps to no-fuss understated style.

1. Emergency Makeup Kit

Always have an emergency makeup kit. This should contain only the bare essentials. Forget the bells and whistles. A good emergency kit should contain:

Primer: Yes, this is an essential item. Put your foundation on without and you will see the difference. Primer smoothes your skin, creating the optimum base for your makeup.

Concealer: Another essential item. This should be a shade lighter than your foundation cream.

Foundation Cream: Once you have identified a colour that suits your skin tone, you’ve nailed it.

Small Eyeshadow Palette: A small palette with neutral colours.

Mascara: A no-fuss brand that is easy to apply.

Lipstick: Again, a neutral shade to match the eyeshadow.

So, on the days that you don’t feel like spending time contouring and doing your brows, just use your makeup staples.

2. Clothes

Set aside some clothes that are easy to wear and stylish. Brands such as Minkpink have just the right touch of cool elegance. Opt for items that you can throw on and not worry about coordinating too much. Maxi dresses, shirt dresses, and shifts are great for this.

Keep clothing laundered and in good condition. Mend any tears or holes as soon as they appear. Make sure that everything is at your disposal so you don’t have to hunt around when you’re tired.

A smart coat or jacket will complete the ensemble and ensure your look your best when you leave the house.

3. Accessories

Accessories make an outfit. They can transform a simple outfit into something fun or striking. Have a few key pieces that suit a range of clothing choices. Statement necklaces, belts, and chunky bracelets work well. The thing about accessories is that they always make you seem ‘put together’..

4. Shoes

Your choice of footwear will depend on your outfit. But ensure your shoes are looked after and ready to wear. Keep them clean and polished. If the heels are looking a little worn, take them to the cobbler. Nothing says hurried and unkempt like scruffy shoes.

5. Hair

If you don’t feel like going to town on your hair, have a few go-to styles you can fall back on. For medium and long hair opt for a ballerina bun or a twist and pin style. If your hair is short, opt for a style that takes minimal care.

6. Attitude

Your overall look is as much down to your attitude as to the items you’re wearing. If you leave the house with slumped shoulders and looking glum, that’s exactly the look you’ll portray. However, if you have a confident posture, you will immediately transform your overall appearance.

What are your tricks for looking good when you feel anything but?

The Ultimate Gift Guide for Beauty Junkies

I wouldn't call myself a makeup junkie, but if you consider having a strict makeup ritual and refusing to leave the house without foundation and eyeliner for a confidence boost...then okay, maybe I am a bit of an addict. Fortunately, if we do know a beauty lover or makeup addict, they will always be easy to shop for. Well, the idea of makeup. But choosing a specific item can be a bit of a challenge. With constant new products and developments, there's always something new to try. Check out the inspiration below if you’re shopping for a makeup maniac:

Palettes and Kits

Makeup palettes have become hugely popular thanks to their cult-status on YouTube and Instagram. Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes are particularly popular, along with Lorac's Unzipped Palette. New releases from Anastasia also regularly hit the beauty headlines. It's easy to see why palettes are so popular. They are compact, attractive, and easy to travel with. With a wide range of colours and textures, it’s possible to create an entire look with the use of only a single palette. They are easy to wrap and feel like a substantial, thoughtful gift. Palettes like the ones listed above are particular favourites because they feature neutral colours. They suit every skin tone and can be used to create a variety of looks.

Gift Cards and Trips

You may find yourself buying for a makeup addict but have no idea where to begin. Perhaps you are a bit of a makeup newbie yourself and don’t have the time or inclination to read the latest blogs on what is popular. But you still want to treat someone to an item you know they’d love. Why not consider an entire beauty experience? A simple experience could mean a trip to a beauty store together. You could have makeovers at the counter together, shop for products, and investigate new releases. You could give your friend a budget and allow them to show till they drop - all on you. Perhaps you could even take a trip to a beauty convention together like the ABA Beauty Show or Beautycon. A gift card can be much appreciated too. It takes the pressure off having to find something suitable, but allows them a gift that they will really love.

The Extras

There are more beauty gadgets and extras around than ever before. Someone might not be able to justify treating themselves but would always love to receive a gift. There is nothing more exciting for a beauty lover than trying out a product or item they have never even heard of! High quality tweezers or eyelash curlers can be a genuine cult favourite. False eyelashes are a wonderful gift for the experienced makeup aficionado too. Check out the hidden parts of makeup stores and websites to discover an unexpected treasure.

Simple makeup tips for the lazy and inept

If you’re completely new to makeup, or just lazy, using it can be a little daunting. I'm one of those super impatient people who can't be bothered watching a 10 minute video telling me how to achieve the perfect winged eyeliner. Look, I'm tired in the morning, I'm rushed, so all I want are the basics.

Always Do Your Makeup in Natural Light

This is one of the most important things you’ll ever learn about makeup. It should always be done in natural light. I tend to fall into the same trap a lot: I think I'm having a fantastic makeup day at home, then I go to work, look into a mirror in the natural light there, and discover that my foundation is smudgy and barely blended.

If you have no choice but to do it in artificial light, you should invest in a mirror that mimics natural light. This is when the most flaws will show on your face, so you can properly see what you’re doing. If you do your makeup in artificial light it might look good, but the second you step outside, it could look completely different. If you do it in natural light to begin with, it’ll look good whatever light you’re in.

Find Out What Suits Your Skin Type

There are hundreds of different types of cosmetics out there, so it can be difficult picking things if you’re a newbie. The best way to go about it is to find out what your skin type is. When you know what suits your skin type, you can go about choosing products accordingly. If you choose products at random without considering whether they suit your skin, it’ll suffer. Not only that, your makeup won’t look the best that it can!

Get Used to Using Brushes and Sponges

Lots of people start off using their fingers when they begin using makeup, but brushes and sponges offer the best finish. If you can invest in a good set of brushes and a beauty blender, most of the hard work will be taken out of it for you. You can find lots of tutorials on using them on YouTube, so all you’ll need to do is practice.

Less is More

Less is more when it comes to makeup, especially if you’re just starting out. Don’t try to do anything too complicated right off the bat. Master the basic looks to start with. All you need for a simple makeup look is a little foundation, concealer, eyebrow pencil/powder, and mascara. Even if you’re wearing a lot of products, it doesn’t need to look like you’re wearing a lot of products. When you feel more confident, you can start to make a bit of a statement!

Review: Tangle Teezer vs Wet Brush

Full disclosure, I don't think I've brushed my hair in 3 years. Half of that is just a fear of having half my hair fall out while I try to comb through it. There's something unsettling about trying to get through a tangle, then seeing a clump of your hair in the brush after. I'd rather live with tangles than see that. I have thin hair so I don't get huge tangles, but my hair does break very easily when brushed or combed.

Thanks to Nail Polish Canada, I had the chance to review two of the top brushes that everyone has been buzzing about: The Wet Brush and the Tangle Teezer.

First up, the Tangle Teezer.

Pros:

  • Bristles are thin and goes through hair easily. When there's a knot, the bristles are flexible and braise through the hair easily, which prevents harsh tugging on tangles. This does mean that it takes a bit longer to brush out tangles, but it's definitely less painful.
  • Portability. Fits in the palm of your hand, so it's a good size to throw into your bag on the go.
Cons:

  • There's no handle, which isn't for everyone. I can see the benefit where it feels like holding the brush gives you more control, but I find it a bit awkward when I like to brush under or upwards onto my hair.
  • Makes my thin hair super staticky. The plastic bristles on my dry hair creates instant frizz. My hair doesn't look dry or damaged from brushing, but frizz is frizz.

And the Wet Brush.

Pros:

  • Combs through smoothly. The bristles grip hair firmly enough, but without tugging too hard.
  • Classic brush style with the handle makes it easy to use.
  • Since the brush is made for wet hair, you get really smooth hair right after you wash it that will last for a good amount of time.
  • Keeps hair looking healthy. I find that there's less breakage here than with a typical brush that pulls knots straight out of the follicle.

Cons:

  • The only real con is that since it works nicely, I'm skeptical about whether or not it's the brush or whether it's the fact that my hair is fresh and conditioned, which could make it easier to brush through anyway.

Conclusion: I'd go with the Wet Brush. If you have thin hair, brushing your hair while wet is definitely best. No matter how good the bristles of the Tangle Teezer are, I just can't get over how frizzy it makes my hair.

Giveaway: Win a brighter smile with a teeth whitening kit valued at $140

I tend to scoff whenever I hear the term "pearly whites". I don't know about you, but I don't think I would actually describe my teeth as white. When I cut out coffee and use whitening toothpaste, they can become "whiter", but never actual white. They say that a smile is contagious, but I think that part of that has to do with the dazzle of the smile itself.

I tried whitening strips before, but they tasted awful, were kind of slimy and gross, my teeth were really sensitive after, and the bleach burned my gums. With this in mind, I was instantly impressed about how easy and personalized Smile Brilliant's process was. With custom teeth trays that are crafted by dental technicians, you don't need to visit a professional with a hefty $500+ price tag. You get convenience, comfort, and great results right from home!
Step 1: With your pre-paid postage envelope, send your teeth impressions back to Smile Brilliant with their molding kit. A few days after, you'll receive your custom-fit teeth trays that are tailored to your mouth only.
Step 2: With the syringes provided, add teeth whitening gel to your tray.

Step 3: Wear your tray for at least 45 minutes. Smile Brilliant says that wearing the tray for 3 hours provides maximum results. Your teeth don't get any brighter from wearing it for longer than 3 hours, so don't worry, you can't accidentally end up with a freakishly bright smile that glows under a blacklight (à la Ross).

Bonus: When you put the whitening gels in the fridge, they have a shelf life of 2 years, so you could even save your gel to make sure that you have white teeth for special occasions.

Want whiter teeth and a more stunning smile? Now's your chance!

I'm giving you the chance to win a $139.95 store credit to Smile Brilliant! With that amount, you can get yourself their full teeth whitening package, which includes:
  • A teeth whitening tray
  • Impressions mold
  • 3 whitening gel syringes + 3 desensitizing gel syringes (great for sensitive teeth!);
  • Or 6 whitening gel syringes
Just leave your name and email in this form and follow me @sincerelysab or on bloglovin'.

Contest closes on May 14. It's open internationally, but prepaid postage for custom impressions is only available to US residents.
Good luck!

Red all over

I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day, but I do kind of enjoy using it as an excuse to wear red. I'm a little indecisive on what to do this year though. Usually, I do a bold lip, but I'm kind of tired of eating lipstick since the first thing I do when I get to work is have a tea. So my next choice is a bright red top. I love the lace detailing on it, but the bright red isn't my favourite kind of red. I'm much more a fan of deeper reds like in this quilted bowling bag. But I sort of feel like I'm cheating when if I wear burgundy instead of classic Valentine red.

Yeah, when this is the big dilemma on my mind, I have too much time on my hands...

Winter skincare tips

Tis the season of being stupidly cold, frizzy hair, and dry skin. Can you tell that I'm not a winter person? But while I'm curling up at home from the cold, I've been taking time to get into better skin care routines. I hide indoors all winter long, I don't necessarily have to look like I hide in a cave all day.

Everyday routines

Chapped hands and dry, flaky lips? No thanks. This is a huge no when it comes to your beauty regimen. Make sure that you use alcohol-free solutions on both your hands and lips. While they may seem worlds apart, the skin on your hands and lips are very similar. They are both delicate, and the skin is thinner on these body parts. Alcohol-free salves are the best way of preventing chaps and sores. After all, you don’t want to ditch lipstick, just because it’s winter.

Okay, so these may not be the coolest fashion accessory in the land. But, if you want to make sure that your hands and feet are a dream, it’s vital that you sleep in moisturizing socks and mittens. Your feet can take a pounding in the winter. Socks, tough boots and heels can cause cracks in your heels. So, get your moisturizing socks on to make sure that your toes are pretty and perky.

For a more skin-deep treatment that will go beyond the outer layer of your skin, try Revitol Phytoceramides. The harsh elements can cause damage to all of the layers of skin. You can beat the impact of fine lines and aging that severe weather can bring. It’s not just the sun that you have to be wary of. Many people slather themselves in SPF in the summer, but forget about the impact of winter. So, make sure that you are smoothing your skin with a thick, creamy moisturizer. Not only will your skin be more supple, but a thicker cream will work into all of the layers of skin.

Occasional skin treats

I've recently become a big fan of using honey mixed with a bit of sugar to create the perfect, holistic scrub. It really works to make my skin glow, but I'll admit it's a challenge trying not to eat honey off my face.

You can also steal some inspiration from Cleopatra by bathing in milk. But, before you start adding dairy to your bath, there are some more contemporary milk-based solutions you can use. Opt for a bubble bath that has at least 12% lactic acid (the ingredient found in milk) for great exfoliating properties.

Hair inspiration and trends for 2015

Planning your hairstyles can be daunting. But, in 2015 there is going to be some fantastic alternative hair styles that everyone is going to love. Whether you have short hair or tumbling locks, you can achieve these amazing styles in an instant. In 2014, we all seemed to have overly complicated hairstyles and colours. Thank god for 2015. Now, hair is going to be much more laid back and chic. Perfect!

Casual Braids

Braids are the perfect laidback, ultra cool look. They are perfect for festival season and for hitting the mall with your friends. But, this year, over styling and complicated braids is a huge no-no. It’s all about adding simple braids to your hair. Keep your hair tousled and soft. Use a Remington curling wand for beach-inspired waves. Then, add a handful of skinny braids throughout your hair. It’s the ultimate way to style your hair in a no-nonsense way. It’s an amazing hair style. But, it's ultra-easy to achieve at home. Even hair novices can covet this rocking look.

Garlands

Please stop walking around with floral crowns like it's Coachella every day. If you want to remain chic and bang on trend for 2015, it’s all about using simple garlands and adornments to your hair. Accessorizing your hair is a simple and easy way to remain fashionable. What’s more, you don’t have to spend a fortune on accessories either. Add a simple flower to a low, messy bun. The key to keeping this look ‘indie’ is to make sure that your hair is not overly brushed and sleek. A messy side bun looks perfect with a simple silk scarf or flower adornment. It’s maximum chic without the fuss.

Crimping

Crimping has become something a hot trend this winter. It’s a great look too. But, the key to bringing this trend bang up to date is to crimp sections of the hair. Opt for a high ponytail and crimp every other section. Add salt spray and backcombing to keep this look fresh. It’s the perfect hairstyle for nights out with the girls.

The Half and Half

This low maintenance hairstyle is perfect for busy girls on the go. Simply take the upper half section of your hair and clip from your head. Leave the under section of your hair to flow freely. Keep the centre parting straight, so that this look can be maintained easily. Add a cute clip or some simple bobby pins. Simple, tousled curls can dress this hair style up for a night out.

The Bold and the Beautiful

Okay, so it's not all about calmer styles this year. Bold colours are perfect for those that want to unleash their inner rock chick. Pastel tones look fabulous on blonde hair. Lilacs, blues and greens are all funky. If you want a semi-permanent solution, hair chalks are perfect for achieving mermaid hair.

Buyer beware

Houndstooth skirt from TJ Maxx / Black blazer / Contrast trim blouse

Here's a bit of a fun story for you. During my lunchbreak at work, I decided to get my hair cut. I work in kind of a trendy neighbourhood where the average haircut is $50. So I was really happy when I found this little place that said that they did $20 women's haircuts. The place was small and definitely not glamorous, but I'm going for a haircut, not to gawk at nice decor. I told the hairdresser I wanted a haircut ONLY and he told me to sit down to wet my hair. As he started shampooing my hair, I asked him if there was an extra cost. Yup, my "haircut" would now cost $25 because wetting my hair was necessary (though he didn't mention it when I walked in). Otherwise, he suggested that I come into the salon with my hair already wet. So finally, he cuts my hair, but not as short as I wanted it because he insists that long hair will look better on me. But the worst was next. He left my hair wet. Yup, he wouldn't dry it because he said that a "professional blowdry" would cost $10 extra. Dude, I wasn't looking for an intense style & blowdry or anything. I just wanted to be able to walk back to work without wet hair. So instead, I sat there blowdrying my own hair. Needless to say, I won't be going back there. So here's a picture of the neighbourhood instead.

Rebellious

via Pinterest

Since high school, I've made sure that I dressed nicely and said things like "oh crackers" instead of swearing so I'd be fully prepared for the work world. But the place I work at now can best be described as anti-corporate. All sorts of language flows freely and I'm thinking about showing up in sweatpants (nicely styled, of course). Since I work somewhere that does't expect me to be in a pencil skirt with hair tied back everyday, I've been tempted to be rebellious since I never went through that stage during my teens. In keeping up with my previous post of subtle badassery, I've been contemplating wildly coloured hair. Except that my rebellious side takes a backseat to my laziness though because I can't be bothered to upkeep hair like this. Oh, and since I'm asian, I risk looking like an anime character. That's a big factor too.
