Trolling

Channelling the good ol' Halloween spirit, I've deciding to go with a sort of modern daytime witch look...and I've got the attitude to go with it.  Whatever the Halloween equivalent of "ba humbug" is, I'd be saying it constantly.  It's kind of what happens when you're around a slew of slutty fruits in university- you get cranky at the mention of costumes and anything Halloween.

And what is up with people wanting to use a nice evening to go take a walk outdoors? Gosh, get off my bridge, I'm trying to take photos here!
Get off my bridge...Three Billy Goats Gruff...the troll...get it?
A joke's not funny if I have to explain it, is it...

Lazy Sunday

It's that time of the year again where midterms and essays have caused a flood of students to go for the yoga pants and hoodies kinda look.  Personally, I go for the paradox of the put-together hobo.  Technically I'm dressed up a little more than the typical student, but my outfit is still meant to maximize laziness.

Hat? Why yes, my hair is a mess under here.
Glasses? Why yes, I do have unsightly eyebags that I want to hide.
Dress? Why no, I didn't feel like wearing pants.
Socks? Why yes, it is too cold to just wear a dress.
Button-down and cardigan? Why yes, I just said that it's too cold to just wear a dress!
Belt? Well, it looked like the outfit could use one.

What I'm wearing:
-Olive green cardigan from Urban Outfitters
-Plaid shirt from West49
-Slouchy booties from Forever 21
-Grey circle scarf from PacSun

And speaking of lazy students that still manage to look put-together, my sister wears faux leather and sweat pants together and even a pop of colour to be super fancy. Cuz y'know, you never know when you might see a cute guy while walking the dog:

Neapolitan

Yet again, food is the inspiration for the bane of my existence.  Neapolitan typically refers to chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream together in one convenient chunk, similarly to the colours I have rolled together in this outfit.  It's a bit of an obscure pet peeve, but I roll my eyes and insist on being right whenever calls it "Napoleon ice cream".  C'mon folks, why would we want to name an ice cream flavour after a violent French guy?

Complementary binary

Sometimes, a weird mix of opposites comes together to form something new and great. Like lace and military. Or florals and stripes. Or eating half a tub of ice cream and needing some salty chips after to balance out the sweetness overload. Or a chocolate fudge sundae on vanilla ice cream with its beautiful black and white mix.  I could really go for some dessert right now.  ...What was I talking about again?  Totally lost my train of thought at the prospects of food. Boy, if I had a nickel for every time that happened...I could afford a piece of cake right now.

Pumpkin spice

I have this technique when I know that I have a lot of studying to do.  I do my work at a Starbucks.  Why?  Not because they have relaxing music.  Not because it smells like coffee.  But because their drinks are just so stupidly expensive, my super cheap self starts to panic.  In order to feel like I'm getting my money's worth, I sit there for hours until I get something significant accomplished.  Yes, my key to success is making my wallet cry.  There's also the justification where the expensive caffeine is just so good, studying is just an excuse to treat myself to one.

Who wears plaid?

I have been told various interpretations about the kind of people that wear plaid shirts:
The 90s told me that only pocket-protector geeks wear plaid.
The Caucasians down the hall told me that only Asians wear plaid.
The American media told me that only Canadian lumberjacks wear plaid.
The trendy urbanites told me that only beer-guzzling country folks wear plaid.

So as an Asian-Canadian-beer-drinkin'-geek, I conclude that everyone wears plaid. And if that conclusion is wrong, I furthermore conclude that I am highly qualified to wear plaid since I appear to be a freakish hybrid of all of those that are said to wear plaid.

Ladylike

What do you do when there's a long line for the fitting rooms and you only have one little item to try on?  Start trying it on in the middle of the store.

That's why I aim to wear tunics and leggings while shopping- so I can take the easy way out and just pull a skirt on in the middle of a busy H&M.  That was the easy part.  The hard part was trying to take the skirt off while reaching up the skirt to hold down my tunic that had ridden up.  Yeah, I'm sure it looked as classy as it sounds.  By the way, I spontaneously decided to do this in the mens' department.  Nope, not awkward at all.

Resurrecting a dress

Who says that you have to wait until special occasions to wear pretty dresses and fancy hemlines?  I'm not a fan of wearing things only once and having them doomed to an eternity of gathering dust in my closet.  So instead of letting this particular dress dangle in limbo, I decided to give it a second life by taking away its formal dressiness by throwing a sweater over it to make it more casual.  Now I'm happy because I don't feel like I'm wasting my $11 on something I never wear, and the dress is happy because it gets to see the light of day now.

Vintage doll

I've always been pretty good at portraying myself as some sort of doll.  Mind you, usually it relates to being a dress-up doll in cute little dresses.  Though some of my habits are a little reminiscent of doll-like characteristics too.  I have a tendency to walk on my tiptoes when I'm not wearing shoes (like a Barbie who's always prepared to wear heels), especially on cold floors.  C'mon, hasn't anyone else walked through security screening at the airport with them yelling at you to walk with your feet flat on the floor?  No one?  Okay, moving on.  I remember in one of my classes in high school, I'd combat boredom and confusion by sitting almost perfectly still staring blankly.  As one of my classmates put it, "she's like a killer doll...nothing, nothing, then RAWR she'll come alive and go crazy one day".  You'd think that people would be more discreet in the face of killer dolls.  We have ears, y'know!
