Photos: A bit of Christmas

In my last post, I talked about being a bit of a grinch when it comes to Christmas.  The stupid Christmas spirit got me.  I'm still feeling all festive and excitable. Probably because I've been eating leftover holiday treats that still aren't gone yet.  Having a house filled with Christmas decorations probably attributes to that excitability too.  It looks like a Christmas store threw up a page from Pottery Barn in here.  Well hey, it looks like I've managed to find a good balance between being grincy and Christmas-happy at the same time!

Now onwards to New Year's!

Cranberry

I'm fairly grinch-y before Christmas.  Christmas songs are not allowed to be played prior to a week before December 25.  I avoid the malls because of the crowds of annoyingly festive and peppy shoppers.  I walk around "ba-humbug"-ing people.  But not now.  It's less than two days until Christmas and festivity preparations are in full swing.  Now, I've been running around the house annoyingly giddy, exclaiming about holiday treats and gifts.

And if I'm being too politically incorrect for you, happy whatever-doesn't-offend-you!

Oxblood

I know we usually give guys a hard time for only being able to see 7 different colours and 3 shades, but I might have to side with them on this one.  I was okay with the whole "aqua", "baby blue", and "forest green" thing, but are we just using random words to re-name colours now?  Remember the good ol' days when "oxblood" was just called "burgundy"?  That's right.  Burgundy.  Believe it or not, that colour already has a name.  And it's a lot less gory.

Birds on a wire

There have been countless times where I've seen a pretty dress I've wanted, but if only it was longer, or had a different neckline, or fit me better.  Which is why the idea of a custom-fit dress is pretty exciting.  eShakti offered me a customized dress of my choice, fit to meet my tastes and sizing.  I instantly fell in love with the bird print here and opted for the simple customization option of bringing the hem above my knee.  I didn't use the sizing custom options, but I do recommend it.  Firstly, their sizing runs a bit larger than I had hoped.  But more so, how many items do you own where you can say that it was made to fit just you?  That'll definitely stop those pesky friends and sisters from borrowing: "Oh sorry, you can't borrow this dress...it only fits me".

Bucket list

When most people put together a Bucket List (a list of things someone wants to do before they die), items usually involve things like skydiving or travelling to see the wonders of the world.  On the other hand, I just wanted something on my list that was original, creative, and a little crazy.  Yesterday, I attempted my Bucket List item of wanting to eat a whole large pizza in one sitting.  Yup, all 10 slices.  I only made it up to 6 slices though, and I think I'll consider the attempt good enough because I thought I was going to die after.  I also learned that binging on pizza and drinking soda and carbonated water causes the hiccups for about 7 hours straight, which is even more deadly than the actual pizza load.

Hibernation

I've come to idolize the life of a squirrel.  It's cold in the fall and winter, and all they do is gather food, eat, and sleep.  I found myself following a similar system this past week.  After grocery shopping for necessities like crackers and soup, I'd pretty much eat all day long and nap in between eating.  But the best part is that the fatter squirrels get, people just think they look cuter.  I think that's a mindset we should all start adopting.   Instead of calling each other fat, we should just go around saying "aww, you got all cute!"

Pinstripe

Have you ever been really excited about something that you just stopped whatever it was that you were doing to exclaim?  Well apparently, getting free rewards from Chictopia & LuLu's is exciting enough to make me rush to open the door immediately.  I swear, my reaction was very similar to a dog's.  As soon as I heard a knock on my door, I bolted out of my room thinking, "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, MAIL!" Unfortunately, I was in the middle of trying on clothes.  I know it's just the postman and I'm in the comfort of my own home so I shouldn't care what I look like, but answering the door with a shirt half untucked and beltless pants really isn't pleasant.  I even made things more awkward by opening the door and instead of saying hi, I pulled up my pants and tucked in my shirt.

Vegan leather

Remember the good ol' days when fake leather was called faux leather and/or pleather? Personally, I have a problem with the term "vegan leather".  I don't think it sounds any more trendy or animal-friendly than calling it faux leather.  I'm all for veganism and all, but not when the term is used to spark new clothing lingo.  In fact, doesn't that actually undermine veganism by turning it into a synonym for "fake, where no animals were harmed in the making of this"?  Quite frankly, if you don't intend on eating your jackets and purses, it doesn't need to be labelled as "vegan".
